You are PHD, Postdoc, ATER and want to discover LIMOS ?
LIMOS welcomes and trains doctoral students, postdoctoral fellows, and ATERs, contributing to the dynamism of research in computer science and optimization. Doctoral students complete a thesis under the supervision of the laboratory's lecturer-researchers. Postdoctoral fellows pursue advanced research after their doctorate, often within the framework of specific projects. ATERs (Temporary Teaching and Research Associates) divide their time between teaching and research, in preparation for an academic competition.
Workforce of LIMOS
- 75 doctorants
- 15 post-doctorants
- 4 ATER
- 9 appuis à la recherche
Recruitment
Rigorous recruitment procedures guarantee scientific excellence. Doctoral students apply via calls for projects funded by national (ANR, CIFRE, doctoral schools) or international organizations. They are selected on the basis of their academic background, the relevance of their thesis topic and their fit with LIMOS' research priorities. Post-docs join the laboratory thanks to specific funding (grants, collaborative projects, research contracts). As for ATERs, they are recruited through university competitive examinations and participate in teaching activities while pursuing their research work.
Supervision of doctoral students
At LIMOS, support for doctoral students is a priority. Supervised by recognized experts and supported by prestigious institutions such as the CNRS and the Université Clermont Auvergne, young researchers benefit from personalized support throughout their career.
-
Academic pressure and support: As with any top-level laboratory, LIMOS PhD students are encouraged to publish in prestigious journals. However, this requirement is balanced by solid supervision and significant resources, notably via its supervisory bodies: CNRS, Université Clermont Auvergne and École des Mines de Saint-Étienne. LIMOS also benefits from an advanced technological infrastructure, including high-performance computing servers and modeling tools, providing PhD students with optimal research conditions to achieve their goals without being overwhelmed.
-
Diversity of post-doctoral opportunities: Contrary to the idea of geographical limitation, LIMOS is connected to a strong international network, via large-scale research projects such as Labex IMOBS3 and the MODMAD federation, offering PhD students varied prospects for collaborations and post-doctoral opportunities, both in France and abroad.
-
Career development and industrial partnerships: LIMOS also offers gateways to industry through its collaborations with prestigious institutions such as ALMERYS, INRAE and UPS, players who leverage the skills of PhD students and post-docs through applied innovation projects. This opens the door to career opportunities outside academia, in high-demand industrial sectors.
Training and personal development
LIMOS supports its PhD students, postdocs and ATERs in their professional development. In addition to the training courses offered by the doctoral school (scientific writing, project management, communication), the laboratory organizes seminars and workshops to help young researchers prepare for their future careers, whether in academia, industry or business. Specific support is provided to help young researchers prepare for civil service entrance examinations, or for integration into research laboratories or technology companies.
This mentoring model enables LIMOS to train autonomous, competent researchers capable of meeting tomorrow's scientific and technological challenges.
Opportunities for mobility and collaboration
LIMOS offers a stimulating research environment, encouraging exchanges and collaborations. PhD students and postdocs take part in national and international projects, benefiting from academic and industrial partnerships. They are encouraged to take part in scientific exchanges, whether with other laboratories in France or abroad, or with partner companies. These experiences enrich their training and reinforce the impact of their research.
Openness and recognition
LIMOS knows no boundaries. With prestigious collaborations, top-level publications and exchanges with researchers from all over the world, find out how the laboratory shines on the international stage. On this page you'll also find a map of LIMOS' international guests and visitors!
After LIMOS
The majority of PhD students go on to pursue careers in research ...
Doctoral student seminars
Every month, LIMOS PhD students organize a seminar dedicated to exchanging ideas and discovering the work being carried out in the laboratory. It's an opportunity to present your research, explore new areas of computer science and exchange ideas with other PhD students in a convivial setting.
What's it for?
The seminar enables PhD students to test their presentations before a conference, practice their speaking skills, get constructive feedback and share innovative and inspiring topics. The aim is also to learn more about the work carried out at LIMOS and to encourage exchanges between PhD students.
Details and organization
📍 On LIMOS sites (Clermont-Ferrand, Saint-Étienne, Aurillac) with a duplex to enable remote participation.
📆 Every first Wednesday of the month at 3 p.m.
🗣 Three possible formats: presentation of a research project, exploration of an IT field, or a lighter presentation on a “fun fact”.
A module validated by the doctoral school
Attending four seminars and giving a presentation will validate a module within the SPI doctoral school.
